Our animal shelter is a 53 year old outdated facility, without ventilation, with leaking roofs, no isolation rooms for dogs or cats and we have a need to increase our number of kennels.  You, along with friends and family can join together and “adopt” one of the rooms to help us with this rebuild project and have your names or the name of your beloved pet prominently displayed either on the room or in the lobby.

Warwick Valley Humane Society is the second oldest animal welfare organization in our County and we intake unwanted and lost dogs, cats, rabbits, small pocket pets, birds, fowl, goats, etc. and assist law enforcement in the investigation and prosecution of animal neglect and abuse cases.  We also partner with our County’s domestic abuse organization to immediately intake pets from those situations without cost to the victim any time day or night.

Our staff and volunteers foster kittens including bottle babies, socialize and help train the dogs, and provide attentive and exemplary care for all of the homeless pets that come through our doors.

The new facility is underway and will have free roaming rooms for cats, a nursery for kittens, an exam room for all intakes, 7 new dog kennels, plus 3 cat and 2 dog isolation rooms.

Our staff will finally have a break room, and we will be able to offer “meet and greets” inside the building with a private adoption room. In addition, we will have the READING ROOM “aka Cat Lounge to read to and socialize with our feline friends.

But, we need your help to reach our financial goal to reach the finish line with this project.  Please consider a donation to our Building fund so we can offer our shelter “guests” a healthier and more spacious environment while they wait for their forever homes.

This special fund for ill and injured older, homeless pets was established in 2000 in honor of Riley, a lost senior terrier who nearly lost his leg due to neglect. After proper veterinary care and lots of love during his recovery, he was adopted into a wonderful home. This Fund is seasonally supported by The Cyrus Sunflower Foundation in memory of a very special elderly beagle, “Cyrus”, who was once an unclaimed stray and who became a much beloved pet in the last year of his life. He lives in all of our hearts forever. Contributions to The Riley Fund continue to help our sick and disabled senior animals waiting for their last chance to be forever loved.

This much needed fund addresses the emergency medical needs for critically injured or ill stray domestic pets. Dogs, cats and rabbits that have been hit by cars, poisoned, caught in leg hold and squeeze hunting traps, or attacked by another animal or abandoned.

This fund contributes to the spay/neuter cost for feral/community cats through our TNR efforts to implement and promote TNR (trap-neuter-return) as an effective, humane means of reducing population and neighborhood nuisance of feral and un-owned community cats.

Donations to this specifically designated Fund offsets the expenses related to the rescue and transport of the rescued injured and ill wildlife animals from hawks to swans to orphaned wild babies, to NYS licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

This Fund was created in memory of “Princess”, a beautiful and sweet St. Bernard mix, who was a victim of animal cruelty. She was starved to death by her adopted owner. The Princess Fund helps us help other victims of animal abuse and neglect with their medical and daily expenses during the often long term recovery period for their emotional and physical injuries
