Our membership drive is underway and we are hoping we can still count on your annual support. 2012 was another challenging year for our organization. We executed four multiple cat rescues: 26 from an abandoned colony, 10 from a condemned home, 5 from another condemned home and 12 locked in a storage unit for months last Spring. We also rescued 6 male goats, an Eclectus parrot, several kittens from various predicaments, 2 sacrificial roosters with 2 hens, and a variety of injured wildlife. During Super Storm Sandy we opened our doors to displaced pets and loaned crates and tanks as needed. Our dog kennels were full and beyond the entire year.
Rupert Baron, past President and dedicated volunteer crossed his Rainbow Bridge at the age of 89 years young to join his many beloved pets on November 7, 2012. A memorial celebration will be held at our shelter in June, 2013. He is dearly missed but will never be forgotten for his all encompassing love of and his compassion for all animals, wild or tame.
The Towns of Warwick and Chester have thankfully renewed the SNR program where a resident of either Town can purchase a $20 certificate from us to be used to spay/neuter a cat from their town at The Animal Rights Alliance Mobile Clinic which operates throughout Orange County. Please call us for more information and help us spread the word “if you feed ‘em, FIX ‘em”.
WVHS provides Animal Control Services for our community. Our Animal Control Officers are on call 24/7 for animal related emergencies for any species. However, we are only funded by the Town of Chester for dog control and Warwick for dog control and to manage the animal shelter. We, therefore, must rely heavily on contributions and fundraising to meet our expenses which exceeded $340,000.00 for 2012, with over $46,000.00 in veterinary charges.
We would like to invite you to join us at our KARAOKE VALENTINE PARTY on Sunday, February 10 from 4-7pm at Pennings Apple Grader Pub on Route 94, our first official 2013 fundraiser. Come sing your heart out for our homeless pets! All of our fundraisers are listed on our website at www.wvhumane.org and on our Facebook page too. And if you are considering adding a pet to your home, think local!
For the animals,
Suzyn Barron, President
